(L’Pine, LePine, Lepine, L’Epine), born as Jean-Antoine Depigny, was an influential watchmaker. He contributed inventions which are still used in watchmaking today and was amongst the finest French watchmakers, who were contemporary world leaders in the field.

est un horloger français né en 1742 et mort en 1799. Il fut l'horloger du Roi Louis XVI. Il inventa en 1793 un échappement mixte ancre-détente, qui combinait les avantages de l’échappement à détente (hauts rendements) à ceux de l’échappement à ancre (meilleure sécurité de fonctionnement). Il fut l'un des premiers à utiliser en France l'échappement à ancre pour les montres, et conçut de nombreux régulateurs de très grande qualité. Il fabriqua en 1785 l'horloge de Marie-Antoinette…

Ferdinand Berthoud
, born on March 18, 1727 in Plancemont-sur-Couvet (Canton of Neuchâtel), died in Groslay (Val d’Oise) on June 20, 1807, and was a French scientist and watchmaker. He became master watchmaker in Paris in 1753. Berthoud, who held the position of Horologist-Mechanic by appointment to the King and the Navy, left behind him an exceptionally broad body of work, in particular in the field of sea chronometers.
