Detail:
Sur le modèle des arcs de triomphe antique, notamment celui de Septime Sévère à Rome, l'Arc de triomphe du Carrousel a été érigé entre 1807 et 1809, en hommage à la Grande Armée de Napoléon Bonaparte. Il a été dessiné par Charles Percier et Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine, architectes du Palais des Tuileries et du Louvre. Il célèbre la campagne de 1805, la victoire de l'armée française à Austerlitz et la capitulation d'Ulm en 1807
